WHAT IS THE VBBC?
The Virginia Beach Bee Club (VBBC) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization based in Virginia Beach. Our mission is to promote and foster community awareness, beekeeper fellowship, education, resources, and overall importance and understanding of the honeybee (apis mellifera) using sustainable, chemical-free beekeeping methods. Our goals are to champion the survival and health of honeybees, to assist local beekeepers with local municipalities and states to invoke reasonable apiculture legislation, to provide support to new and experienced beekeepers and public interest via monthly meetings and scheduled events and to demonstrate Best Management Practices (BMP’s) throughout the Virginia Beach area.

Agriculture depends greatly on the honeybee for pollination. Honeybees account for 80% of all insect pollination. Without such pollination, we would see a significant decrease in the yield of fruits and vegetables. With more and more urban development and the growth of cities, there is less and less foraging available to bees. However, areas like Virginia Beach contain a rich assortment of nectar and pollen for honeybees, thanks to homeowners’ gardens and the fields of agriculture. We welcome you to venture out to one of our meetings to witness the beekeeper camaraderie and one of the most amazing insects, our honeybee! Our members hail from the Virginia Beach and Chesapeake areas. Our members are beginning beekeepers and experienced beekeeping mentors ready to assist anyone wishing to get started in beekeeping.
